There are so many republican candidates running for president this year and on January 8th the voters of New Hampshire will go to their local voting venues to choose their candidate from a large list. Of course on the list you will see the familiar names such as McCain, Thompson, Romney and Giuliani but there will also be candidates you never even heard of or heard of them very little. One such candidate is Dr. Hugh Cort III.
The Man
Dr. Cort is a psychiatrist from Mountain Brook, Alabama. He lives there with his wife Debra, who he has been married to for 18 years. Dr. Cort is a man who believes strongly in the family and traditional values and is an extremely friendly polite speaker according to Vicki Matton, “he is so nice and polite; he went out of his way to hold several spots for college students at a convention where they would get to hear both republicans and democrats speak”. Dr. Cort has been practicing medicine since 1992 (about 15 years). When Dr. Cort was younger he originally attended Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania but he ended up getting his b.a. from the University of Alabama. Dr. Cort later received his masters from the University of Alabama at Birmingham as well as a doctorate degree from the University of South Alabama; both schools are known for their medical programs. Dr. Cort is a religious man; he is a member of the Cahaba Christian Fellowship and Gideon’s International. He has also gone to Africa to participate in medical and Christian missions. Dr. Cort is a member of Physicians for Life and the President’s Club of the Republican National Committee. When I asked Dr. Cort what made him decide to run for president he told me that he felt that politicians had let down the people especially on the issue of terrorism. This led to him feeling that he would be a great president because he is not a politician and knows quite a bit about terrorism. Actually Dr. Cort has been in the spot light during his campaign because of his expertise on terrorism.
The Issue of Terrorism and Why Dr. Cort Would be a Good President
Dr. Cort is internationally recognized as a counter terrorist expert. A few weeks back I asked Steve Kush, Dr. Cort’s campaign manager, how he felt about Dr. Cort and his stances on the issue. Kush stated “I think he is the best candidate out there…”, he explained to me that Dr. Cort was the best candidate out there because of his expertise on counter terrorism. Kush also informed me that Dr. Cort travels around lecturing his ideas on the topic, “…he has been invited to many lectures including the Intelligence Summit”. Kush told me that Dr. Cort was an author of a book called Saddam’s Attacks on America: 1993: September 11, 2001: And the Anthrax Attacks: A Free Wheeling and Hard-Hitting Commentary on the Life-Threatening Problems Facing America and the Prescription for their Cure.
Dr. Cort on the Issue of Terrorism
In my interview I was lucky enough to here Dr. Cort’s ideas on terrorism. Dr. Cort explained that he does his counter terrorism work with Dr. Paul Williams who is also recognized internationally and wrote several books on the issue, you can visit their website at www.stopdoomsday.com . Dr. Cort believes that Osama Bin Ladin has already got his hands on at least ten briefcase size nuclear devices which he plans on exploding in ten different cities within the US. He also believes that Osama also has about 20 Russian Nuclear Scientists helping him out. He explains that he has gotten his information from sources such as multiple former generals who act as military analysts for FOX. He also said that BBC has backed him up on this belief as well as Yusef Birdanski and Hamid Mir, a top Pakistani journalist. Dr. Cort says, “the FBI refuse to search the mosques” so he has written to Vice President Dick Cheney and Secretary Michael Chertoff (DHS) trying to get them to get the FBI to search the mosques and to inform the public that there may be nuclear devices within our country. To read more on this issue visit Dr. Cort’s and Dr. Williams site www.stopdoomsday.com.
An outside source, Dr. John Hughes, a political science professor at St Michael’s College who just finished teaching a seminar on American Constitutionalism in the Age of Terrorism visited Dr. Cort’s and Dr. William’s site. After viewing the site stated, “Well, I sure wouldn’t vote for him without a gun held to my head”, feeling that the ideas were outrageous and very inaccurate.
If elected president, Dr. Cort plans to work on the issue of terrorism, to make sure our country is safe from terrorism. Dr. Cort isn’t just focusing on terrorism; he also has views on many of the other major issues that the people of America care about.
Dr. Cort on Iraq and Iran
Dr. Cort feels that the war in Iraq is doing better but highlights that we are not winning. He feels that the war in Iraq can be won only through a similar plan than that of General Tom McInerney’s. He says “we need to carry out a bombing campaign in Iran, it will probably take about two months…” not 48 hours like the general’s plan. Dr. Cort says he will focus on the major nuclear facilities of Iran. Dr. Cort says this has to be done because “Ahmadinejad is like Hitler, he needs to be stopped before his power grows bigger in the middle east” he also said “Iran is responsible for 80% of the terrorism in the region and supplies weapons to Iraq…if Iran is stopped, the war in Iraq will be easier to win”. Dr. Cort would also like to increase the number of troops by at 100,000 and try to overwhelm the Iraqi forces.
Dr. Cort on Pro-Life
Dr. Cort is a strong advocate of pro-life being a doctor and taking the Hippocratic Oath. He said one of the first things he would like to do when he is in office is to overthrow Roe v. Wade and to make and amendment protecting all human life. Even though he is all for pro-life, Dr. Cort does support stem cell research if it is carried out through skin cells or adult cells only. He suggests that everyone checks out the website www.silentscream.org to see how awful abortions are.
Dr. Cort on Immigration
Dr. Cort says that “there are hundreds of drug smugglers and terrorists getting into our country through Mexico. These smugglers are brutal, the rape, murder and kidnap young girls and use them as sex slaves”. Dr. Cort wants to end this, which he plans on doing by building a double fence. This would be two fences along the southern boarder with a road in between the two fences for border patrol to patrol. He also suggests to increase security at major ports and says “eventually a double fence may be needed along Canada because once Mexico is shut down everyone will start trying to come in from Canada”.
Dr. Cort on Global Climate Change
Dr. Cort says that “global climate change is not caused by human activity and there are at least 20 scientists who agree with me.” Dr. Cort feels that we have nothing to do with global climate change and explains that it’s a natural cycle, “The Romans used to be able to grow grapes 12 months out of the year in England, that is impossible today, you can only grow grapes in England for two months out of the year”. Dr. Cort says that right now the sun is in an intense cycle and that we are slowly coming out of an ice age. Dr. Cort does have some ideas on how to limit pollution. He wants to use hydrogen cars, but wants the free market to decide when because they are too expensive and he wants to use nuclear power like France and to stop trying to use ethanol as an energy source.
Dr. Cort on Education
Dr. Cort would like to have public, private, religious and home schooling but he feels that if you send your kids to private, religious or home schools that you should receive tax break or some sort of voucher. He wants to get back to the basics, reading, writing, and arithmetic, “there are too many kids out there who don’t even know how to read”, Dr. Cort explained. He wants to allow more grants and scholarships for college.
Other Important Issues
Dr. Cort is against gay marriages and civil unions, he is a supporter of the Fairtax plan and wants to limit government spending “we should focus on spending for the military more only” Dr. Cort explains.
Straw Polls
Dr. Cort has been in two straw polls, one in Texas and one in Rhode Island. He came in last in Texas and first in Rhode Island beating Romney, Giuliani, and McCain. He has been invited to participate in the Washington, Georgia and Virginia straw polls.
Outside Source
Dr. Jeffrey Ayres, the head of the political science department and professor at St. Michael’s College is a graduate of the University of Virginia and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He was asked to go over Dr. Cort’s stances on issues. Dr. Ayres explains that he isn’t too enthused about Dr. Cort but does like his stance on healthcare. Dr. Ayres explains, “I must say I have come away not terribly enthused. Of course, first of all, I have never even heard of him before, and he obviously has absolutely not chance of making any headway with his campaign nationally. He hasn’t participated in any Republican debates to my knowledge, so he has no profile whatsoever.
That said his proposals on national security seem preposterous: he wants to engage in a 48 hour bombing campaign of Iran? Somehow that is going to provide “results” in the Iraq conflict? When will these neoconservatives realize that bombing, invading or otherwise radically intervening in a sovereign state is no way to win over the domestic population? Remember the “they will greet us with flowers” quote from Rumsfeldt? Or was that Perle or Wolfowitz?
As for domestic policy, Cort is obviously a far right winger and his proposals against gay marriage in particular seem to be pushing against a much more liberal trend in today’s population on social values. I have to say I like his health care idea of trying to get the U.S. to stop subsidizing cheap prescription drugs for the populations of other citizens, as we clearly pay far more than other countries for our drugs.
The fair tax idea is just another failed trickle down means of further exacerbating an already nearly historic gap between the haves and have nots in this country.”
